SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Our Senior hurlers met Rapparees in Round 2 of the Pettitts Senior Hurling Championship on Saturday in Wexford Park. Gary Moore delighted the crowd with an excellent early goal and there followed an even exchange for the first half, tipping in the Rapps favour towards the latter end, closing out the half 4 points ahead of Glynn Barntown. Despite the benefit of a strong breeze in the second half our boys struggled to get to grips with the game and a gap of 2 or 3 points remained between the teams for most of these 30 minutes. In the dying stages of ordinary time a Mark Fanning free rebounded off the Rapparees upright and Craig Doyle was on hand to double it to the net to put us a point up. However the excitement was shortlived as Rapps replied instantly by raising the Green flag at the other end of the field. The added minutes of extra time were not enough and Rapps took the spoils 2-17 to 2-15.
Senior and Junior Hurling
Our Senior hurlers are in action this afternoon Sat Mar 26th v Rathnure in Killurin at 3pm in the ACHL followed immediately by the Junior hurlers who play Adamstown at 4.30pm also in Killurin.
Membership
A gentle reminder that club membership is now due as insurance and Co. Board affiliations have now to be paid out from the clubs.
Senior GAA
Our Senior Footballers had a winning start to their league campaign with a two point away win over Sarsfields. Having conceded an early goal against the run of play we recovered and an attack-minded performance yielded 2-10 from seven different scorers. The overall performance was solid but it was disappointing to concede goals in the last minute of both halves. The next football league outing v St. Martins is on Sunday week.
Our Senior Intercounty stars were in action at the weekend with Michael O’Regan and Rob Tierney playing their part in Wexford’s defeat over neighbours Waterford in the Allianz NFL on Saturday while Mark Fanning and his Wexford Senior Hurling colleagues had an excellent victory over Kerry on Sunday.
Club Person of the Year
Congratulations to Clubman Michael Laffan on his Wexford GAA District Club person of the Year award at last night’s event in the Riverbank House Hotel. Michael has a lifelong association with the both as an underage and adult player, team manager, committee member and fundraiser. He has also represented the club at Co. Level both on and off the hurling field in various capacities. Well done Mickey!
